Biography

Phillip Philbeck is renowned for breathtaking landscapes of his native North Carolina.  The surroundings in which he grew up inspire the artist to paint this beautiful scenery.  Fall in this region of our great country offers some of the most spectacular color and foliage to thrill the many visitors who come to admire nature's magnificent display.  With a serene lake and orange, red, and yellow leaves in the trees framed by Mount Mitchell, the artist has created one of his most remarkable works.  This panorama of "Fall in the Appalachians" brings to life one of the year's most vibrant seasons masterfully painted by Philbeck. Philbeck is a master landscape artist who captures the magnificent scenery of his home state of North Carolina.  In this image, a farm in Appalachia is wrapped in the first winter snow storm as the last rays of sunshine are extinguished.  The old barn stands as a sentinel on the white carpet of the landscape.  Filled to capacity with winter hay for the animals and protecting the farm equipment, the barn will be the shelter for these things until spring arrives.

Phillip Philbeck has created another spectacular image. The artist showcases all the beauty of the famous Grandfather Mountain in his home state of North Carolina.  The mountain was given its name from a distant view in the landscape where it appears to form the profile of an old man lying on his side.  Until 2008, the mountain was a privately-owned property and operated as a nature preserve.  In 2008, the State of North Carolina purchased the property.  Grandfather Mountain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state.  It is famous for its mile-high "swinging bridge" that gives visitors easy access, and a thrilling vista, to breathtaking views from the mountain's Linville Peak.  The swinging bridge is aptly named for its tendency to sway in high winds.

"Sunset Over the Gorge" is a major work by one of America's finest landscape artists, Phillip Philbeck. Living about an hour west and north of Charlotte, North Carolina, he is close to some of the most beautiful land in the country. This painting features Hickory Nut Gorge which was the location for much of the filming of the movie, "The Last of the Mohicans". Philbeck paints the mountains, farms, piedmonts and shores of his native state.
