This is the place where my chapter of the Sons of American Revolution has its bi-annual meetings and dinners. Really a down-home type of place. Definitely off the beaten path. Good fried chicken and chicken liver.

Germania Männerchor, Evansville’s German-American social and singing club, was founded in 1900 by German immigrants.  The club’s Volksfest has become a summertime tradition in Evansville, where Bavarian oomp-pah bands play; cold, frothy beer flows freely and tasty bratwurst, sauerkraut and pigs’ knuckles permeate the air of the open-air festival.  Here’s one of Evansville’s favorite watering holes, albeit a once-a-year oasis:

This tavern is about two miles from my house in Darmstadt. Earle is a little unincorporated village with a popular place where you can get good "beer and eats."

The sign on the counter says "No Sissy Bar!" While you're sipping your beer, it wouldn't hurt to be appreciative of Harley Davidson motorcycles and somewhat knowledgeable about  NASCAR driving legends, Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt.

This inn dates back to 1912 and was originally a railroad station. It's a great place for a leisurely meal and good food--and the "World's Coldest Beer!"
