The first sight of buffalo ignites excitement within a party of scouts. The lives of these men and these animals are entwined together on the vast map of the Great Plains. The arrival of the buffalo will herald many celebrations. The Creator has bestowed an answer to the tribe’s prayers with a gift of rain and endless herds.
A season of provisioning begins, as the resourceful natives prepare to utilize every part of the bison for clothing, shelter, tools, weapons and food.
A continuance of harmony and thanksgiving will propel the tribe for another year. Or, is there a storm-warning on the horizon? - Bev Doolittle

It seems that with every artist there are works that manage to make it into private collections before they are properly documented. Some of these can, in hindsight, be rather important ones. They are known to exist, but their whereabouts are a mystery. As is often the case, in time, they somehow, some way, some day reappear.

Bev painted The Arrival in 1977 and sold it through the Carson Gallery in Denver, Colorado, her originals distributor at that time. The work’s trail ended there. Long thought lost, the painting was recently rediscovered! In the thirty-year period since its rendering, Bev has produced fifty Fine Art Editions, as well as seven books and folios of collected works, all published by The Greenwich Workshop. Until now, The Arrival remained elusive.
Available in print for the very first time, it is one of the earliest works featuring the rendering style Bev has become renowned for. Storytelling is a hallmark of nearly all of her compositions, and The Arrival is no exception. The palette and design are instantly recognizable. Both are in service of the eponymous “Doolittle narrative” which has shaped the artist’s reputation.
Storytelling through design is the hallmark of any Bev Doolittle work, and The Arrival is no exception. There is no escaping the implication of a “storm on the horizon.” Those dark clouds immediately bring to mind the Native American experience in North America. This is storytelling through design at its finest.
The Arrival will be reproduced with an eye towards tradition but with the most up-to-date technology. This Fine Art Gilcée will be created on the highest quality Hahnemuhle German Etching fine art textured paper. Deckled edges allow for either a traditional or floating presentation of the framed image.

Bev Doolittle discusses the story behind her Fine Art Print, Eagle Heart: At the end of the day, as they sat chatting around the campfire, Bear Heart, with a sweeping hand gesture, told me, 'In what you are doing, you are keeping all of us alive. You make think your canvas is inanimate, but what you put into it speaks for itself. It cries out: Look at me, full of life, in harmony with the landscape! In my case, when you paint a grizzly, you're sustaining the life of my father and my father's relatives, because I am of the bear clan, My father was of the bear clan. I regard bears, all bears, as my father.

Bev Doolittle's Fine Art Print, Hide and Seek, brings an entirely new dimension to the world of art in an exquisite seven-piece collector's suite. Twenty four individual pictures of Pintos, set against a background of rock and snow make up this beautiful set. Placed together by the artist in a totally unique composite, the words Hide and Seek spring to view.

'I always saw this painting as a total design spelling out the words HIDE AND SEEK. To me, each one of the twenty-four individual paintings were just one-twenty-fourth of the total image. It wasn't until a business meeting with my publisher that I realized how much people liked the individual paintings. There were six or eight of us sitting around a conference table looking at the twenty-four finished paintings and everyone started picking their favorites. The composite image became forgotten in the discussion over the various merits of the individual paintings. It was finally decided to select the six most popular images and publish them as a portfolio of individual limited edition prints. These six prints have been reproduced the same size as the originals so that all the detail could be retained.'-Bev Doolittle

All 7 prints in this suite are numbered with matching numbers, 2 are signed. The large composite print is signed and the Cameo F print is signed. The six popular images mentioned above are included in this portfolio as individual prints and the one that comes from the lower right corner (Cameo F) of the composite print is hand-signed by Bev Doolittle.

Bev Doolittle discusses the story behind her Fine Art Print, The Art of Camouflage:The challenge here was to use camouflage art in a new way, incorporating words into the drawing. I did a series of backgrounds, different kinds of rocks and trees. Once I had ironed out the concept, I settled down and had fun. An Indian warrior on horseback is one of my favorite subjects to paint.

Bev Doolittle discusses her Fine Art Print When the Wind Had Wings. ' Most of my paintings start with a visual idea. This painting, however, was inspired by some words written by my husband, Jay. One of our friends refined and condensed Jay's words into a single line that expressed the essence of our feelings. Then I combined two painting ideas that visually and emotionally embodied the message Jay had expressed with his words.' When the Wind Had Wings displays the technique and imagination that have made Bev Doolittle the best-selling artist in print. This print is unique, yet evokes fond memories of Bev's most popular works. When the Wind Had Wings is unusual, too, in that it was inspired by Bev's husband, Jay, rather than by an image. Jay was inspired by a special part of an Indian reservation at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains. He used words to express our feelings of the way in which all the ancient peoples had interwoven their lives into rhythms of the natural world. Inspired by his words, Bev gave them life with her watercolor talent. She says, 'I was completely intrigued with the idea of creating a painting that flowed visually from left to right and was linked to a poem that would run directly under it...words and pictures, simultaneously telling a story: A broken song beneath the snow, the echo of a soaring joy, a shape in the mist, a touch in the rain, in wilderness you come again...you tell us what we used to know...you speak for all the free wild things whose ways were ours when the wind had wings.

Bev Doolittle's Fine Art Print, Wilderness! Wilderness?, is brilliantly illustrated, offered as a fine art poster so its beauty and message will be available to everyone for all time. Wilderness! Wilderness? is specially designed so it can be displayed to emphasize either the presence or the absence of wildlife. This fine art print is also enhanced with embossed, debossed and foil-stamped lettering. Bev explains, 'Wilderness is a place where natural forces prevail. Each missing plant or animal, seemingly insignificant in itself, creates a cavuum over time. We are left with a beautiful landscape which was once so much more.'
